Just in case you missed the announcement in the October newsletter, we are in the process of setting up a workshop for December with Joe Edelman.  Joe has offered two workshop topics: “Photographic Creativity” and “Images Reimagined” (see below for descriptions).  He has two dates available:  Saturday, December 3, and Saturday, December 10, from 10am to 4pm.  The total fee to TCC for either workshop is $1000.  The cost per individual depends on the number of people signing up.  Joe recommends a maximum of 20 participants.

At this point, we have 14 members who have expressed interest in Joe’s workshops.  While many members have indicated flexibility in terms of workshop topic and date, the “Photographic Creativity” Workshop on December 10 represent the preferred topic and date so far.  If you are interested, please contact Janet Kerr ( as soon as possible so we can lock in the date and workshop topic with Joe, as well as well as the conference room at Horn Point, which Mutt Meritt has kindly reserved for us.  The more members who sign up, the lower the cost per person.

Images Reimagined

When someone views your photos, they will NEVER have the same experience that you did as you created it.  For a photographer who is learning and improving his/her craft, seeing your images re-processed, cropped and finished by another photographer can give you excellent insight into how others perceive your work and give you a better understanding of your strengths and weaknesses as well as what techniques and aspects of your photography that you should be paying more attention to.  Working in Lightroom and Photoshop, and using images volunteered by club members, Joe will walk through the images, and discuss EVERY step of how a professional photographer would approach shooting that image and the choices they would make and then he will demonstrate how he would post process them and crop them all while explaining WHY and HOW.

This 6-hour workshop will begin with a lecture and then progress to the images re-imagined walkthrough.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop loaded with Lightroom and or Photoshop – but this is not required.

Photographic Creativity Workshop

If we all have the potential to be creative, why is it so hard?  For starters, many of the ways that we traditionally learn photographic techniques are creativity killers.  Joe will give you a greater understanding of the science behind creativity.  Where does it come from? Are humans born with it or do they learn it? Is it possible to make yourself more creative?  The answers from research done by cognitive psychologists will surprise you, frustrate you and excite you.  Armed with a better understanding of how creativity works, Joe will lay the foundation for you to be able to develop more creative skills and become a better more creative photographer, with loads of tips and a series of photographic exercises and practices that will help you to see and think about your subjects in ways that you never have before.

This 6-hour workshop will begin with a lecture and then progress to a series of creative photography assignments and will then wrap up with a Lightroom / Photoshop post processing demo of some of the images shot that day.

This is a hands on workshop so bring your gear, you will be shooting. Also if you use a laptop to work on your photos – be sure to bring the laptop as well.
