Speaker Meeting Image Critique via Zoom ONLY

This Speaker meeting is a follow up from last months lecture, “How graphic design can impact your photography” by Graham Scott- Taylor.  He issued a photography assignment which was to submit images for critique based on the topics he discussed in his lecture. 

The theme is “Shape and Form”.

The Assignment is as follows: 
  • Picture that expressly shows shapes where the subject is the central part of the image
  • Think about how light creates the shape, silhouettes for example, or side lit subjects, soft light or back lit subjects
  • Artificial or natural light, indoors or outdoors
  • Can colour create the shape?
  • or Black and white
  • Possibilities are ENDLESS
  • Note: the main subject must make up the interest in the image.  Bullseye images will be rejected unless they are exceptional!

Members may submit one or two images.

Submitted images will be JPG images preferably in sRGB colorspace to render colors correctly on screen. Size the images 1500 pixels on the long side, which means the image should be 1500 pixels tall or 1500 pixels wide or 1500 x1500 pixels square and not larger. Members will be allowed to submit up to two entries using their Member ID Number followed by -1, or -2 as their entry name. This process will allow the Speaker to discuss individual submissions and identify common strengths and areas for further attention. Example: 123-1.jpg & 123-2.jpg

From Last Month:
We will explore how the relationship between graphics and photography can allow you to become more aware and creative.  The goal is to use new ways of seeing to create more interesting photos without being cliché.   
 

bio

Born and raised in North Wales, I always loved to be involved with anything creative, and became a graphic designer in the early ’90s.

This background has provided me with a very strong sense of composition, form and colour, and has had an obvious influence on my photographic images. They are often graphically related in concept and can contain bold elements with vibrant colours, that sometimes appear to be deceptively simple compositionally.

I find myself drawn to an eclectic mix of subject matter which appeals due to its visual content and aesthetic distinctiveness.

Living in the United States for over a decade, gave me an understanding of how powerful photography can be. In order to create images that would work in a commercial arena, and because I needed imagery to compliment my design work, I shifted from commissioning photography to working behind the lens myself. This was the only way I could fulfill my own very specific vision and maintain creative control from start to finish.

Upon my return home to Wales in late 2014, I began a new love affair with my homeland, this time with a camera. Becoming reacquainted with it’s breathtaking landscapes and rich history. I began discovering new dimensions to the home I used to know so well. Seeing it now with a greater appreciation and a bold creative insight.

In late 2009, I became a member of the  Professional Photographers of America, PPA. I am also a Nikon NPS member.
