 Steve Rosenbach

“Cityscapes / Townscapes”

Monday – March 4, 2019
7:00 to 9:00 pm
Talbot Community Center – Wye Oak Room

Steve became a photographer just days after graduating from high school at the start of the Summer of Love, 1967. The Love part passed him by that summer, but he was hooked for life on his love of photography a few weeks later when he first saw one of his images slowly appear under the safelight of his friend’s darkroom. After many years of photographing with black & white and slide film, he crossed over to the Dark Side in 2002, and has been shooting digital ever since.

Since 2009, he has been designing and conducting photo safaris and workshops in Annapolis, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and his favorite city, New York. Steve has taught photography at Anne Arundel Community College and now teaches individuals and small groups privately. He is the organizer for three photo Meetup.com groups – in Baltimore, Philly, and New York City – and manages to have at least one free meetup event for each group each month.

During his presentation, Steve will discuss photographing “Cityscapes/Townscapes” which are photographs of the urban built environment, from grand structures like the Chrysler Building and the Manhattan Bridge to fireplugs in Annapolis and tiny architectural details anywhere. The subject matter can be magnificent or mundane; it doesn’t matter as long as the image is interesting. In this presentation, urban photo maven Steve Rosenbach will show you and discuss some of his favorite “cityscape” images, gathered from Charleston to Boston. He will describe his approach to maneuvering safely through a city, to composing a cityscape image which tells a story, and how the use of bold color or contrast, dramatic graphic design or interesting juxtaposition can generate a great initial impact on the viewer.
